His degree, obtained in New Zealand, is centred in management science and engineering, with aspects of plant physiology. Since joining Carter Holt Harvey as a graduate, his dedicated work ethic and ambitions to enter management saw him rapidly progress through positions as supervisor, co-ordinator and analyst. He then became a contract manager responsible for achieving production targets, monitoring quality assurance programmes and implementing health and safety initiatives. In England he has worked with First Great Eastern Railways as a financial analyst to the Sales and Marketing team, responsible for detailed project analysis and budgeting. His travels have seen him working in the Arctic Circle as a land surveyor and engineering inspector. More recently Simon has visited the Orient and lived in Japan.
